Some affiliated societies offer possibilities to apply for the following grants: 

EMU sponsorship of young scientists participating in emc2016

The European Mineralogical Union offers two travel grants (400 € each) to young scientists (< 35, not yet  hired) contributing to the following sessions:

• • P40 Mineral-hazards.  The environmental and human health problem represented by raw and  man-processed mineral phases
  • P41 Mineral sciences for the understanding of cultural heritage

Recipients will be  selected in advance by the convenors. Participants  will have to contact the sessions' convenors and send the required information while submitting their abstracts (as contributing author).

EMU will also offer three poster prizes (consisting in two volumes of the EMU Notes at choice and a certificate)  to young scientists (< 35, not yet hired) contributing to  the following sessions:

• • P14 Mineral reaction kinetics: microstructures, textures, chemical and isotopic signatures
  • P40 Mineral-hazards. The environmental and human health problem represented by raw and man-processed mineral phases
  • P41 Mineral sciences for the understandig of cultural heritage

Recipients will be selected during the meeting by a commission nominated by the EMU. Participants  will have to contact the sessions' convenors and send the required information while submitting their abstracts (as contributing author).

SIMP grants for young researchers

The Italian Society for Mineralogy and Petrology SIMP wants to stimulate the attendance of young researchers (students, PhD and postDocs) to emc2016 by covering their registration fees.  Grants will be offered to young reseachers who will give an oral or poster contribution as presenting authors: applications will be selected by the SIMP Scientific Committee.
Applications can be submitted only by SIMP members.
Applications should be submitted electronically, with deadline 9/5/2016, to the email address segreteria@socminpet.it, and should include:

• • a declaration of the status of student/PhD/postDocs issued by an authorized institution
  • two letters of reference by SIMP members
  • title and scientific session of the contribution presented at the Congress.

Grant recipients will be notified by 24/6/2016.

DMG award and grants for young scientists

Paul Ramdohr Award

The Paul Ramdohr Award is given for the best student oral presentation at annual meetings of the German Mineralogical Society (DMG). 

The prize for the best talk at the emc2016 in Rimini which hosts the annual DMG meeting 2016 will be presented by the DMG president during the next annual meeting in Bremen 2017.

Travel Grants for students

Student DMG members attending emc2016 can apply for a travel grant if they present their work in oral or poster form and as first author. The grant amounts to € 50 and will be paid by bank transfer after the conference. Applications should be submitted personally at the general member meeting of the DMG.

SGA grants for students

The Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits (SGA) offers 8 travel grants (each of 250 Euro) to SGA students to participate at the 2^nd European Mineralogical Conference. The grants are offered to SGA student members who will contribute to SGA sponsored sessions: P30 Gem materials; P31 High-tech metal minerals in Europe; P34 Platinum group minerals and accessory minerals: development in their characterisation;  P35 Potential mineral deposits of critical platinum group elements; P36 The future of critical metals: mineralogy, metallogenesis and geometallurgy.

The award of the student grant requires the acceptance of an abstract for oral or poster presentation, and will be based on financial need and scientific quality of the submitted abstract. The application form should be sent to Anna Vymazalova (anna.vymazalova@geology.cz) by April 25, 2016.

SFMC grants for students

The French Society of Mineralogy and Crystallography (SFMC) offers travel grants to students working in french laboratories and giving an oral or poster contribution as presenting authors. Each grant covers the registration fees (230 euros) and a one-year subscription to the SFMC.

Applications should be submitted electronically on the SFMC website by April 24, 2016.

IMA awards for students

The International Mineralogical Association is pleased to introduce the PhD Student Award, the main purpose of which is to recognize and support outstanding students by providing them the opportunity to present their research at an international level, forge new collaborations and ideas, and further develop their career. In 2016, the meeting of choice is the 2nd European Mineralogical Conference. Each award will be 1,000 USD and is intended to be used for conference registration fees and some or all of the related travel expenses. Three young scientists will be awarded through this program biennially. Please consult http://ima-mineralogy.org/ for more details on the application procedure.

Deadline for applications is May 2, 2016. 

SEM grants for young researchers

The Spanish Mineralogical Society (SEM) offers travel grants for attending EMC2016 to students from any country giving an oral or poster contribution as presenting authors. Each grant includes a one-year subscription to the SEM.

Applications should be submitted electronically on the SEM website by May 15, 2016.

Two young researcher awards for the best communications of the Spanish Mineralogical Society meetings are given.
